Fire Safety of PUR Foam Pre-insulated Ductwork
Fire safety is a crucial criterion for duct systems. The PUR material itself is a flame-retardant material. When exposed to flames, it forms a carbonized layer on the surface, effectively preventing the spread of fire, and it does not self-ignite or produce harmful gases. Depending on the product specifications and formulations, PUR/PIR duct panels can achieve the following fire resistance levels:
BS 476 Part 6&7 Class 0: This is a British standard, applicable to buildings with strict fire protection requirements.
ASTM E84 Class A: An American standard, indicating that both the flame spread index and the smoke index are at a relatively low level.
GB8624 B1 grade: A Chinese national standard, classified as a non-flammable material.
Installation efficiency and structural of PUR Foam Pre-insulated Ductwork
Lightweight: The weight of the PUR duct is approximately 1/3 of that of traditional iron sheet ducts. Taking a 20mm thick standard plate as an example, the weight per square meter is only about 1.35 kilograms. This not only facilitates transportation and installation, but also significantly reduces the load-bearing capacity of the building structure.
Installation is convenient: This product adopts an "integrated prefabricated insulation" design, eliminating the need for secondary insulation, bundling, or covering at the site. Skilled workers can install 50 to 80 square meters per day by themselves, and the overall construction period can be shortened by 40%.
Low air leakage rate: The factory-prepared and dedicated flange connection method ensures the airtightness of the system. The air leakage rate of the PUR duct system can be controlled within 5%, which is much lower than the 15% to 20% level of traditional iron sheet ducts. This means lower energy consumption and more stable airflow distribution.
Physical performance of PUR Foam Pre-insulated Ductwork
Although lightweight, the PUR ducts still possess excellent structural strength. The main physical indicators are as follows:
Compressive strength: The common specifications are 0.25 MPa or 202 KPa.
Bending strength: Up to 2 MPa.
Applicable wind pressure and wind speed: The system can withstand wind pressures ranging from 1000Pa to 1750Pa, and wind speeds ranging from 13m/s to 35m/s. It can cover most commercial and industrial ventilation scenarios.
Water-resistant and anti-aging: The closed-cell structure of the PUR foam results in an extremely low water absorption rate (approximately 0.1% - 0.36%), and with the double-sided aluminum foil protective layer, it effectively prevents water vapor penetration and corrosion, ensuring stable long-term insulation performance.
Service life: The designed service life of this system is usually 20 to 30 years, during which the maintenance cost is low.
