PU Aluminum Duct Panel

PU Aluminum Duct Panel is an integrated sandwich composite material specially fabricated for HVAC air duct production. Factory bonded with PU insulation core and double-side aluminum foil facings, it combines structure, heat preservation and air sealing into one finished board, replacing conventional GI duct plus field insulation construction.

Structure

Core: Closed-cell rigid PU foam, density 45–55kg/m³, thermal conductivity 0.020–0.024W/(m·K), available in 10~40mm thickness options. High closed-cell rate brings outstanding waterproof and thermal performance.

Surface: 0.06~0.08mm aluminum foil on both sides, acting as air barrier, moisture barrier and protective layer against corrosion and dust.

Standard panel dimension: common size 3950×1200mm for easy cutting and duct fabrication.

PU panels have gained popularity because they solve several pain points associated with traditional galvanized iron (GI) sheet metal ducts:

Integrated Insulation: Traditional ducts require the metal sheet to be installed first, then wrapped in fiberglass insulation. PU duct panels combine the air channel and insulation into one 20mm thick board. This eliminates the separate lagging process, saving labor and time.

Energy Efficiency: PU foam has a very low thermal conductivity (approx. 0.020W/m.k). This keeps the air temperature stable inside the duct and prevents condensation (sweating) on the outside surface.

CFC/HCFC Free: PU duct panels provide zero ozone depletion, no chemical off-gassing or odor, and comply with global environmental standards (LEED/Montreal Protocol), while preventing internal acid corrosion that can degrade the aluminum facing over time.

How to Make Air Ducts with PU Aluminum Duct Panel

The lightweight design of PU panels allows for a relatively simple, tool-efficient fabrication process. This is a key reason for the significant savings in installation time and labor compared to traditional metal ducts.

 

Here is the typical step-by-step process:

Marking & Cutting: The panel is measured and cut according to the duct design. Using a sharp utility knife or a specialized foam cutter ensures clean, straight edges for a perfect fit.

Grooving & Folding: A specialized "V-groove" tool is used to cut a V-shaped channel into the back of the panel, allowing it to be folded cleanly without cracking the aluminum surface .

Applying Adhesive: High-strength glue is applied to the folded flaps to bond the duct into its final rectangular shape.

Sealing: Seams are sealed from the inside with a special sealant and from the outside with strong aluminum tape. This step is critical for preventing air leakage and ensuring system efficiency .

Joining Sections: Duct sections are connected using special aluminum or PVC flange profiles and H-shaped connectors. Corners are reinforced with steel brackets or cover angles, and sealant is applied to ensure the connection is airtight.
