Core material and insulation performance of Pre-insulated PI Duct Sheet

Pre-insulated HVAC Duct

The core base material of the prefabricated PI insulation air duct sheet is modified polyisocyanurate (PI) rigid foam. Different from conventional PU insulation materials, the molecular ring structure is dense, and the closed-cell rate can reach 93% to 96%. The measured thermal conductivity is 0.021 to 0.023 W/(m・K). Under normal temperature conditions of 23℃, the insulation effect of the same thickness is approximately 12% better than that of ordinary PU. A 25mm thick conventional sheet can meet the insulation specifications for central air conditioning supply ducts, and a 50mm specification is suitable for low-temperature fresh air and low-temperature process exhaust ducts.

 

The advantage of high-temperature resistance is prominent. The long-term continuous use temperature limit is 130℃, and the short-term peak heat resistance is 150℃. This eliminates the problems of foam shrinkage and delamination in high-temperature environments, and is suitable for high-temperature exhaust, kitchen exhaust, and composite air duct scenarios for cooking smoke, avoiding the drawbacks of high-temperature softening and failure of rubber and XPS.

Flame-retardant, environmentally friendly and safety indicators of Pre-insulated PI Duct Sheet

The PI substrate inherently contains flame-retardant molecular chains, eliminating the need for additional flame-retardant additives. The oxygen index measured is ≥ 32, meeting the B1-level non-flammable standard. When exposed to open flame, the surface undergoes carbonization to seal the air holes, without any molten droplets, with a smoke density level of s2, a smoke toxicity level of t1, and meeting the fire protection standards for large supermarkets, hospitals, office buildings, rail transit ventilation and heating systems.

 

The production process of the product does not involve the use of Freon foaming, and does not contain harmful substances such as formaldehyde and benzene series. The VOC release is lower than the national standard limit by 75%. After completion, the air duct system does not need to be left idle to disperse odors, and the machine room and clean workshop can be put into use immediately upon completion. Waste materials can be crushed for recycling and reprocessing, and the solid waste pollution is much lower than that of rock wool and glass wool air duct materials.

Advantages in physical structure and construction cost of Pre-insulated PI Duct Sheet

The finished products are mostly in standard sizes of 3950×1200mm, with a board density of 50-55kg/m³. The self-weight of a 20mm thick board per square meter is only 1.35-1.5kg. Compared to the external iron sheet ducts and the bulk insulation cotton, the overall weight is reduced by 65%. The construction only requires a utility knife, a slotting tool for on-site cutting and splicing, and the dedicated PI-type materials for the flanges. A single worker can process an area of 28-32㎡ for the ducts per day. The traditional iron sheet ducts with insulation cotton have a daily construction area of only 11-14㎡, saving more than 55% in labor hours.

 

The board splicing is sealed with the matching sealant, without the need for additional insulation wrapping. The four processes of cutting, folding, riveting, and secondary external insulation of the galvanized iron sheet are omitted. The overall project cost is reduced by 18%-23% compared to the traditional iron sheet insulated ducts. The boards can be bent to make elbows, reducers, three-way and other special pipe fittings. The special components are formed on-site as a whole without the need for separate prefabricated iron sheet accessories.
