Pre-insulated PU Ductwork

Pre-insulated PU (Polyurethane) Ductwork is a complete, factory-engineered system used for conveying air in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems. Unlike traditional systems that require installing a metal duct and then wrapping it with separate insulation, this solution is an all-in-one product.

It consists of a rigid polyurethane (PU) or polyisocyanurate (PIR) foam core that is continuously bonded between two layers of aluminum foil facings. This panel is then fabricated into ducts, fittings, and accessories.

Composition and Structure of Pre-insulated PU Ductwork:

A cross-section of pre-insulated ductwork reveals its simple yet effective three-layer sandwich construction:

Inner Liner: A smooth or embossed aluminum foil layer (typically 60 or 80 microns thick) that forms the interior air passage. It is corrosion-resistant and provides a low-friction surface for airflow.

Insulation Core: A rigid, closed-cell foam core made of Polyurethane (PU). This core is the heart of the system, providing exceptional thermal insulation and structural rigidity.

External Layer: A smooth or embossed aluminum foil or thicker aluminum sheet layer that protects the core from mechanical damage and environmental factors. This layer often features a printed branding or measurement grid for easy installation.

The panels are cut to size, grooved, and folded into ducts. The joints are sealed with a proprietary locking system and sealed with aluminum foil tape or a special sealeant adhesive to ensure a completely airtight assembly.
