Core Performance Parameters of PIR Sheet

PIR pre-insulated Duct Panel

The most prominent advantage of PIR Sheet lies in its excellent insulation and heat preservation performance. According to data from multiple manufacturers and third-party tests, its core performance indicators are as follows:

Thermal conductivity: The thermal conductivity of PIR panels is usually 0.018-0.024 W/m·K (25°C). According to the new national standard GB/T21558, PIR materials have 8 insulation grades, with the thermal conductivity ranging from 0.018 W/(m·K) to 0.022 W/(m·K). This value is at the leading level among all common insulation materials, significantly superior to traditional rock wool (about 0.040 W/m·K) and EPS (about 0.032-0.040 W/m·K).

Density and strength: The core material density of PIR is usually 40±2 kg/m³ or 60±2 kg/m³. At a density of 40 kg/m³, the compressive strength is ≥250 KPa; at a density of 60 kg/m³, the compressive strength is ≥320 KPa.

Absorption rate: The ultra-low absorption rate (about 0.36%) ensures the long-term stability and airtightness of the material in a humid environment.

Fire Safety Performance of PIR Sheet

Fire safety is the core competitiveness of PIR Sheet compared to ordinary polyurethane (PUR) boards.

The six-member ring in the PIR molecular structure will cause the material to burn and char when heated, forming a dense carbonized protective layer that effectively prevents the spread of flames and heat transfer. The decomposition temperature of PIR foam is approximately 260°C, significantly higher than that of ordinary polyurethane (220°C). The hard PIR foam made by using pentane foaming can be used to make composite boards, with a fire resistance time of up to 30 to 60 minutes.

In terms of fire resistance level, the core material of PIR Sheet can generally reach B1 level (non-flammable), with an oxygen index exceeding 35%. Some high-end products (such as Kingspan PIR-ALU 35) can reach Class 0 fire resistance level under specific standards. Compared to ordinary polyurethane (usually B2 or B3 level), PIR has significant advantages in fire safety.

Environmental and Sustainability of PIR Sheet

PU FOAM DUCT BOARD

PIR Sheet is lightweight and easy to cut and shape, allowing for cutting into various sizes and shapes as per design requirements.

Modern PIR Sheet products have made significant progress in environmental aspects. Currently, mainstream products adopt fluorine-free foaming technology, with a green and pollution-free production process, having a zero potential for ozone layer depletion (ODP = 0) and extremely low greenhouse effect impact (low GWP). Some products have also obtained green building product certifications.

In terms of sustainability, the excellent insulation performance of PIR sheets can significantly reduce building operating energy consumption and carbon emissions. Compared to rock wool with a thermal conductivity of 0.040 W/m·K, the PIR board with a thermal conductivity of 0.022 W/m·K requires only about 55% of the thickness to achieve the same insulation effect, resulting in less material usage, thinner walls, and higher floor area ratio.
