PIR Composite Air Ductwork
PIR Composite Air Ductwork act as a high-performance sustainable solution adopted in modern HVAC systems. Manufactured as an integrated sandwich assembly clad with aluminum foil facings and a rigid PIR foam core, they achieve superior performance versus conventional galvanized steel ducts which rely on on-site insulation installation. The eco-friendly PIR core delivers excellent thermal efficiency to reduce operational carbon emissions, with environmentally benign raw materials compliant with global sustainable construction criteria. These panels are extensively specified for hotels, office buildings, airports, hospitals and other commercial and public facilities.
Construction & Key Materials
These panels adopt a composite sandwich structure: Core Material The insulating core is rigid PIR foam. It delivers high thermal resistance and structural rigidity whilst maintaining a lightweight profile.
Facings Protective, airtight facings are permanently bonded to both sides of the foam core. Two common options are available:
Aluminum Foil: Standard 80-micron foil, ideal for general indoor applications.
Aluminum Sheet: 200-micron sheet offering enhanced strength and durability, suited for outdoor installations.

Fire Safety Performance
The rigid PIR foam core meets Class B1 flame retardant requirements, and the aluminium foil cladding attains A1 non-combustible classification. Upon exposure to fire, it generates limited smoke without molten droplets. The product conforms to BS 476, EN 13501 and other international fire protection specifications, applicable to high fire hazard locations including data centres, subways and hospital buildings.
Service Lifespan
Outstanding anti-corrosion performance is demonstrated: 95% strength is maintained after 720 hours immersion under acidic and alkaline conditions. Issues such as rust formation and pulverisation do not occur, with a designed service life of 20 years. Traditional galvanized steel ducts easily corrode and have a service life of just 5–8 years; phenolic ductwork is prone to cracking and damage within 3–5 years.
Operation and Maintenance Expenses
Thanks to inherent moisture-proof and anti-corrosion surfaces, regular annual rust cleaning and coating are unnecessary. Annual maintenance costs drop to 30% of those for conventional duct systems.
