PIR ALU Pre-insulated Duct Board

PIR ALU pre-insulated duct board is a specialized material used to build HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) air ducts. It's a high-performance alternative to traditional sheet metal ducts, designed to be lightweight, energy-efficient, and easy to install.

It's a sandwich panel with a rigid insulating core made of PIR (Polyisocyanurate) foam, a thermoset plastic known for its excellent fire resistance and thermal properties . This core is permanently bonded on both sides to aluminum foil, which acts as a protective, airtight, and vapor-resistant barrier.

How to make Air Ducts with PIR ALU Pre-insulated Duct Board

They are fabricated on-site or in a workshop using a specific set of tools:

Cutting & Grooving:

The panels are scored and cut using a specialized grooving tool. A "V" groove is cut on the back of the board, leaving the front aluminum intact, allowing it to be folded like cardboard.

Folding:

The board is folded along the groove to create the corners of the duct.

Joining:

Sections are joined using a concealed flange system made of aluminum or PVC profiles, creating a strong, airtight, and smooth joint without any exposed metal flanges inside the airstream.

Sealing:

All joints and seams are sealed with a specialized silicone sealant and reinforced with aluminum tape to ensure 100% air-tightness.
