PIR Air Conditioning Boards

PIR Air Conditioning Boards are rigid thermal insulation boards specially engineered for HVAC air distribution systems. Functioning as pre-insulated duct panels, they are fabricated into lightweight, high-performance ductwork, serving as an alternative to conventional sheet metal ducts fitted with external insulation.

Core Material: Rigid polyisocyanurate (PIR) foam featuring a high closed-cell ratio (generally over 90%).

Facings: Both surfaces are laminated with reinforced aluminium foil, fiberglass scrim or other vapour retarder layers to deliver enhanced durability, thermal reflectivity and a smooth airflow surface.

Available Thickness: 10 mm, 20 mm, 25 mm, 30 mm, 40 mm

Why Choose PIR Air Conditioning Boards?

PIR Pre-insulated Ducts

Thermal Insulation, Low Smoke Emission and Low Toxicity

PI foam exhibits inherent flame retardancy for enhanced fire safety. Its Limiting Oxygen Index (LOI) is typically higher than 34%, significantly surpassing the standard requirements for most flame-retardant materials.

Excellent Acoustic and Thermal Insulation Performance

With an open-cell structure featuring an open-cell fraction of up to 99%, PI foam achieves exceptional sound absorption. It attains a Noise Reduction Coefficient (NRC) of maximum 0.54 within the frequency range of 125–4000 Hz, efficiently attenuating airflow noise and mechanical operating noise in HVAC installations. Its thermal conductivity is lower than 0.022 W/(m·K), enabling reliable thermal insulation at low areal weight.

Ultra-Low Outgassing and Chemical Stability

Volatile substances released by materials under vacuum may lead to contamination of precision apparatus. Thanks to its ultra-low outgassing property, PI foam is widely utilised in aerospace applications and semiconductor cleanroom environments. The material also offers resistance against weak acid, weak alkali and common oils such as 93# gasoline, demonstrating excellent chemical inertness.

Advantages of PIR Air Conditioning Boards

  1.
  2. Superior Thermal Insulation

Polyurethane boasts one of the lowest thermal conductivity figures for commercially available insulants, with typical λ ≈ 0.020–0.024 W/m·K. Consequently, slimmer panels can attain equivalent R-values compared to thicker mineral wool and fiberglass insulation.

  3.

    Lightweight Property

The material weighs approximately 1/10 of equivalent sheet metal ductwork, reducing building structural loading as well as handling and installation workloads.

  4.

    Inherent Vapor Retarder

Foil facings function as an integral vapor barrier, avoiding condensation issues and mitigating mould proliferation on duct surfaces.

  5.

    Smooth Internal Duct Surface

Reduced air friction lowers pressure loss and energy usage. The surface also inhibits dust accumulation, supporting improved indoor air quality (IAQ).

  6.

    Low Air Leakage

Following standard fabrication procedures including grooving, folding and sealing with foil tape or adhesives, joints and seams attain high air tightness, complying with or outperforming SMACNA duct leakage standards.

  7.

    Acoustic Performance

The foam core offers sound insulation, attenuating noise from fans and turbulent airflow.
