PIR Air Conditional Ductwork

PIR Air Conditional Ductwork are a primary high-performance solution utilised within modern HVAC systems. Manufactured as an integral sandwich assembly clad with aluminium foil facings and incorporating a rigid PIR foam core, they exhibit better performance than standard galvanised steel ducts which require insulation installation on site. Applicable to diverse engineering projects, such duct panels are frequently selected for hotels, office buildings, airports, hospitals and additional commercial and public buildings.

Panel Assembly Components of PIR Air Conditional Ductwork

Pre-insulated Ductwork

PIR Air Conditional Ductwork adopt a three-layer integrated sandwich construction. The outer facings consist of 60/80 μm embossed aluminum foil, and the core is high-density closed-cell rigid PIR/PU foam. No secondary on-site lamination is required, and standardized specifications guarantee consistent performance.

Core Material Specifications

Foam density: 40–50 kg/m³; closed-cell ratio ≥ 95%; thermal conductivity: 0.018–0.022 W/(m·K); water absorption < 0.1%, avoiding performance degradation caused by moisture penetration. Available panel thicknesses: 20/25/30/40 mm to satisfy diverse thermal insulation demands.

Structural Performance

Compressive strength reaches 0.25 MPa, enabling resistance to air pressure up to 1500 Pa. The smooth inner surface delivers low airflow resistance, supporting a maximum ventilation velocity of 20 m/s. The finished panel weighs merely 1.4–4.5 kg/㎡. By comparison, insulated conventional galvanized steel ductwork weighs 15–20 kg/㎡, achieving a weight reduction of more than 70%.

Sealing Performance

Integral forming eliminates thermal bridging. The dedicated joint sealing design delivers an air leakage rate ≤ 2%, far superior to the 8%–15% leakage range of traditional galvanized steel ducts, and complies with acceptance requirements of GB 5024

Fire protection, durability and operation and maintenance costs of PIR Air Conditional Ductwork

Fire Safety

The PIR foam core achieves Class B1 flame retardancy, while the aluminium foil facings are classified as A1 non-combustible materials. The material features low smoke emission and no molten dripping during combustion. It complies with international fire standards including BS 476 and EN 13501, making it suitable for high fire-risk environments such as data centres, metro transit systems and hospitals.

Long Service Life

The panels deliver excellent corrosion resistance. After 720 hours of immersion in acidic and alkaline solutions, the material retains 95% of its mechanical strength, free from rusting or pulverisation. The rated service life reaches 20 years. In contrast, conventional galvanized steel ducts are susceptible to rust and only last 5–8 years, whereas phenolic duct panels tend to crack and fail within 3–5 years.

Low Operation & Maintenance Costs

Equipped with moisture-proof and anti-corrosion surface properties, the panels require no annual rust removal or repainting work. Annual maintenance expenditure is merely 30% of that needed for traditional duct systems. Benefiting from minimal air leakage, the load on air handling units is lowered. Fan energy loss and equipment maintenance frequency are also reduced, bringing a 30%–40% cut in total whole-life-cycle costs.
