Pre-insulated Metal Ductwork bonds metal facings (such as galvanized steel sheets, aluminum foil) with high-efficiency insulation materials (such as polyurethane (PU), phenolic foam) tightly via professional production lines, forming a composite structure of "metal protective layer - insulation core layer - internal anti-corrosion layer". It can be put into use after on-site cutting, splicing and installation, significantly improving system energy efficiency and construction efficiency.

The outstanding performance of pre-insulated metal ductwork stems from its scientific layered structure design. Different layers cooperate with each other to form a complete functional system of "protection - insulation - air transmission". The typical structure consists of three layers from outside to inside:

 

1.Outer layer: Metal protective layerIts core function is impact resistance, corrosion prevention, and protection of the internal insulation layer. Common materials include aluminum foil (55-200μm) and hot-dip galvanized steel sheets or color steel plates (which are aesthetically pleasing and suitable for exposed installation scenarios). The surface of the metal layer is treated with galvanizing, spray coating, etc., which can effectively resist external environmental erosion and extend the product service life.

 

2. Middle layer: Core insulation layerAs the key layer determining the duct's thermal insulation performance, different insulation materials can be selected according to application scenarios:

Polyurethane (PU): Features the lowest thermal conductivity and optimal insulation effect, along with good sound insulation performance. Suitable for commercial buildings, hotels, hospitals and other scenarios with high requirements for energy efficiency and noise reduction.

Phenolic foam: Boasts excellent fire resistance (Class A non-combustible) and low smoke density. Suitable for public facilities with strict fire rating requirements such as airports, subways and high-rise buildings.

 

3. Inner layer: Internal anti-corrosion and flow guide layerDirectly in contact with the transmitted air flow, it must be smooth, corrosion-resistant and low in wind resistance. Common materials include aluminum foil composite layers and hot-dip galvanized steel sheet internal surface treatment layers. These materials can reduce air flow resistance, lower wind noise, prevent erosion of the duct by water vapor and chemical substances in the air flow, and ensure the cleanliness of the transmitted air.

To ensure product quality, pre-insulated metal ductwork must comply with multiple international and domestic standards. Regular manufacturers conduct strict factory inspections on products, including:

 

Thermal insulation performance test: Detect thermal conductivity and heat loss rate to ensure energy-saving effect.

 

Sealing performance test: Control air leakage rate through air tightness test.

 

Structural strength test: Test impact resistance and compression resistance to avoid deformation.

Do PIR pre-insulated (PI) ducts require additional insulation after installation?

No. Unlike traditional steel ducts (which need separate insulation layers like fiberglass), PIR pre-insulated panels are factory-insulated with integrated facing. This eliminates the need for secondary insulation work, saving time and labor.

In which scenarios is PIR pre - insulated duct sheet suitable?

It is widely used in commercial buildings such as offices, shopping malls, and hotels, as well as in residential complexes, industrial facilities, healthcare and food processing facilities, and cold storage and refrigeration systems.

How is PIR pre - insulated duct sheet packaged?

How to maintain PIR pre-insulated (PI) ducts?
