Fire Rated HVAC PIR Duct Board

Fire Rated HVAC PIR Duct Board from UNTDuct is a modern, integrated, structural-insulating ventilation solution engineered as a high-performance alternative to traditional metal ducts. It combines the air channel, thermal insulation, and a robust fire-resistant barrier into a single, lightweight, prefabricated panel-eliminating the need for separate, on-site insulation wrapping.

What sets this system apart is its dual-layer fire defense:

The Aluminum Foil Facings (The First Line of Defense) – Both the inner and outer surfaces of the board are laminated with high-strength, fire-rated aluminum foil (typically 0.06mm to 0.08mm thick). This foil is not merely a vapor barrier; it is an active fire-protective layer. In a fire, the aluminum foil reflects radiant heat, resists direct flame impingement, and acts as a sacrificial shield that delays heat penetration into the core. Its non-combustible nature (Class A surface rating) prevents the duct surface from igniting and significantly reduces surface flame spread.

The PIR Foam Core (The Second Line of Defense) – Beneath the foil, the Polyisocyanurate (PIR) foam core provides the ultimate thermal barrier. When exposed to extreme heat, PIR does not melt or drip; instead, it rapidly forms a dense, insulating char layer that self-extinguishes, slows flame propagation, and drastically limits toxic smoke release. This charring action, protected by the outer foil, buys precious evacuation time.

Together, the aluminum foil + PIR core composite has passed rigorous international fire standards, including:

BS 476 Part 6&7 Class 0 (UK)

GB 8624 Class A (China)

Advantages of Fire Rated HVAC PIR Duct Board

The UNTDuct PIR system offers several significant benefits compared to traditional metal ducts that require separate, on-site insulation:

Superior Energy Efficiency:

The PIR foam core has an ultra-low thermal conductivity, typically  0.022 W/m·K. This excellent insulation can reduce HVAC system energy consumption by an estimated 30% to 40%.

Lightweight & Quick to Install:

The boards weigh only about one-third of traditional metal ducts, making them easier to transport and handle. The modular, pre-fabricated design significantly speeds up installation, potentially shortening the construction period by more than 50%.

Durable and Moisture-Resistant:

The closed-cell structure of the PIR foam, combined with a sealed aluminum foil facing, provides excellent resistance to moisture and corrosion. This helps prevent mold growth and ensures a long service life of over 20 years.

Clean and Environmentally Friendly:

The smooth inner surface minimizes dust accumulation, making it suitable for hospitals, clean workshops, and other settings where air quality is critical. The manufacturing process also uses CFC/HCFC-free blowing agents, aligning with green building standards.
