Phenolic duct panel System
The Phenolic duct panel system is a complete ventilation and air - conditioning duct solution formed by taking phenolic duct boards as the core material and combining supporting connection techniques, auxiliary materials, and installation specifications. It integrates the insulation, sound absorption, and other properties of phenolic materials, and realizes efficient, energy - saving, and environmentally friendly air transmission functions through systematic design. It is widely used in ventilation and air - conditioning projects of various types of buildings.
Core Components of the System
1. Main Material: Phenolic Duct Board
Structure: The middle layer is closed-cell phenolic foam (insulation core), and the inner and outer layers are composite embossed aluminum foil (for reinforcement, moisture resistance, and sealing). In some special scenarios, color steel plates or other facing materials can be used.
Performance Foundation: Relying on the low thermal conductivity (0.016~0.036W/(m·k)), excellent flame retardancy (oxygen index ≥32), and porous sound-absorbing properties of phenolic foam, it provides core guarantees for the system in terms of insulation, fire resistance, and sound attenuation.
2. Supporting Auxiliary Materials
Connection Accessories: Special duct flanges (such as PVC flanges, aluminum alloy flanges), sealants (silicone sealant, aluminum adhesive tape, etc.), PVC corner, steel angle bracket , etc., to ensure airtightness and structural stability at duct joints.
Reinforcement Materials: For large-sized ducts, reinforcing components such as keels and support strips are required to prevent duct deformation.
Moisture-proof and Protective Materials: In humid environments (such as basements, bathrooms), additional moisture-proof layers or aluminum foil tapes are needed to enhance sealing; for outdoor installations, a sun protection layer can be added.
3. Auxiliary System Components
Air Outlets and Regulators: Air supply outlets, return air outlets, fire dampers, air volume regulators, etc., connected to the ducts, which must match the size and performance of phenolic ducts.
Sound Attenuation Accessories: Although phenolic ducts themselves have sound attenuation properties, in scenarios with high noise requirements (such as hospital operating rooms), plenum chambers and sound-attenuating elbows (with the same material as the ducts) can be used for further noise reduction.

Comparison with Traditional Duct Systems
| Characteristics | Phenolic Duct Board System | Galvanized Steel Duct System (with Insulation Layer) | FRP Duct System |
|---|---|---|---|
| Insulation Performance | Excellent (low thermal conductivity, integrated insulation) | Average (requires additional insulation layer, prone to falling off) | Good (but cold leakage easily occurs at joints) |
| Sound Attenuation | Built-in sound attenuation, reduces noise transmission | No sound attenuation, requires additional silencers | Poor, prone to resonant noise |
| Weight | Light (1.4~2kg/㎡) | Heavy (8~10kg/㎡) | Medium (5~7kg/㎡) |
| Installation Efficiency | High (modular splicing, no secondary insulation needed) | Low (requires on-site welding and insulation wrapping) | Medium (installed after forming, but splicing is complex) |
| Service Life | Over 20 years | 8~10 years (prone to rust and insulation aging) | About 15 years (prone to aging and deformation) |
| Comprehensive Cost | Higher initial cost, long-term energy-saving and low maintenance | Lower initial cost, higher later maintenance cost |
